LAND

Characters: SNOW, JAMES, CASSANDRA, NARRATOR.
“You’re a vampire,” Snow says finally. (I guess that’s how you pick up.) I don’t answer. “You really are,” he says. I start the engine. “I mean, I knew it—I’ve known for years. But you really are....” He touches my cheek. “You’re warmer now.” “It’s the blood,” I say. “Would you be heavier? If I lifted you?” “I imagine. I just emptied a deer.” I glance over at him; he still looks like something I want to eat. “Don’t try.” “How does it work?” he asks. “I don’t know.... Magic, blood magic. Virus, magical virus. I don’t know.” “How often do you have to drink?” “Every night, to feel good. Every few nights, to stay sane.” “Have you ever bitten anyone?” “No. I’m not a murderer.” “Does it have to be fatal every time? The biting? Couldn’t you just drink some of a person’s blood, then walk away?” “I can’t believe you’re asking me this, Snow. You, who can’t walk away from half a sandwich.” “So you don’t know?” “I’ve never tried. I’m not ... that. My father would kill me if I touched a person.” (I think he really would, if I bit a person. He probably should, anyway[...]” “Hey,” Snow says, wrinkling his forehead at me, “don’t.” “What?” “Think. Whatever you’re thinking. Stop.” I exhale, frustrated. “Why doesn’t this all bother you?” “What?” “I’m a vampire.”

S: I knew it! Why didn’t you tell me?
J: I don’t know how I can explain it
S: Just say it
J: Do you remember Saturday night, at the party?
N:At one side of the room Cassandra appeared.
C: What party?
J: … It’s time to leave
N: Cassandra and James went to James’s house
C: What were you talking about?
J: I have nothing to tell you.
C: Yes because I’m your girlfriend
J: You’re so annoying
N: Then, he leaves. Meanwhile Snow is thinking about what James said. For this reason, Snow is going to James’s house to talk about it. On the way there, he finds James who is running towards him. At the same time, they look at each other, and James says.
J: I have something to tell you.
S: Tell me
J: Do you know why you don’t remember Saturday nigth at the party? Well, since I was drunk and you helped me to go home, and at the end I kissed you, I evased your memory because I didn’t want our friendship to change.
N: When James said that he was confused and surprised. Suddenly, Snow kissed him. James separated from him, but then James kissed him back. The next day, at James’s house they were in James bed and woke up, he went to the kitchen for breakfast. Suddenly, Cassandra appears.
C: What are you doing here?
S: …
C: Did you sleep with James?!?!
N: Cassandra took a knife and staved him. James appeared and hoped that he hadn’t died so he thought that if he bit him, he would come back to life. So he did it. In that moment, Cassandra ran away and Snow opened his eyes.
S: I feel strange, What happened??
N: James explained everything so they decided to leave Utah to live a new life together.
